Karen Walker x Advanced Style

New Zealand designer Karen Walker has just released campaign pics of her upcoming eyewear range for 2013. Partnering with the blog 'Advanced Style', a blog dedicated to capturing the style of over 50's in New York, Walker has been able to showcase her new collection on a range of seriously stylish older models aged between 65 and 92 years old!

The outcome is great. It's so nice to see such creative ideas for a high end fashion label. The quirkiness of both the eyewear and the styling work perfectly. If only I could pull of that silver hair…

I think I might

With about a gazillion pictures being taken worldwide using mobile phones and posted on Instagram and other social media networks, and almost as many websites being built to show off these little treasures, it's hard to know where to look to find some real beauties. "I think I might" is an online curation of photographs with a cute interface and quirky collection of images. It also has a world map indicating what's being shot where... although no Aussies on the map yet as far as I can see!

Washi Washi

A few years back I picked up a book in New York called the "MT Kamoi Masking Tape Book". I didn't really know what it was about, but have since observed a growing trend for Washi Tape: printed Japanese rice paper masking tape. It's very crafty and I haven't yet been able to think of any genuinely useful ideas for its application, but it is soooo pretty and I love the uncoated paper finish. Have a look at Etsy for a growing list of sellers offering this delightful stuff.

God's Fingerprints

Found these interesting little graphic studies recently featuring various bible verses. They're from godsfingerprints.net, but the best place to see them all is on the associated Tumblr site. I think it's a collaboration, and although they rely fairly heavily on current typography trends and image treatments, I still like them. It's really just nice seeing these verses represented in such beautiful visual context. Think we can quite possibly find some inspiration there for the work we do for Scripture Union, a handful of Baptist organisations and UnitingWorld.

Vintage thread spools

Just thought I'll put together a little collection of vintage thread spools to share. I love the way that each of these labels is its own resolved circular design. The bygone typefaces and flourishes make me so curious. I feel sure that there will be an opportunity to reference these little beauties in a new design one day soon...

For all lovers of food and colour swatches, these Pantone Tarts were developed by French "food designer" Emilie de Griottes. What a quirky, tasty idea, and a nice reminder that some of the best colour inspiration can be found in the fridge!

This is so beautiful, I just had to share it. Calligraffiti artist, Niels Shoe Meulman, takes to the street with a mere broom, bucket of water and pure talent. Looove it!

Sweet little collection of old sweets packaging. Just because. Aren't they pretty?!

Monteith's Beer packaging

Would I buy a product just because of its beautiful packaging? Absa-bloody-lutely I would! The Monteiths range is simple, classic and communicates so well the personality of each flavour, whilst maintaining a clear visual system which shows how the various bottles all belong to the one family. A brand I'm very happy to devote to, luckily the beverages are delicious! Snaps to you, Designworks of New Zealand.

Birdies

Have taken an interest in stylised bird illustrations ever since drawing the creatures in the trees on the St John wall. This picture f-f-f-found at FFFFOUND!

This is typography nerdism at its absolute finest. Click on the image if you'd like a larger version. Unfortunately I can't find the name of the designer, who I'd love to credit. But well done, whoever you are! Although, is that Gill Sans I see in the heading? Can we just forget that font was every invented please??!
